Use the Keeplet app and website with one account

Applies to: Android and iPhone appLast updated:

If you sign in with the same account, the Keeplet app for Android and iPhone and the Keeplet website show the same notebooks, notes and cards, with the same review state. Theme, reminders and notifications, some statistics and the writing and review features that exist on only one of the two platforms stay separate.

How do I use the same account on the app and the website?

  1. On the website, create the account (email or Google), as in How to create a Keeplet account.
  2. In the app, open Profile, tap Save your progress and then Already have an account? Sign in; choose Sign in with email, Sign in with Google or, on iPhone, Sign in with Apple.
  3. Wait for "All saved.": the website's notebooks arrive in the app.

If you already had notebooks on the app without an account, they are added to those on the account. Reviews done as a guest aren't carried over: cards start again as new (see Save your progress with email, Google or Apple).

What is shared?

What App and website
Notebooks, notes and cards The same: you create on one side, you find them on the other
Review state (next review, interval, number of reviews) The same: a card reviewed on the website isn't offered again in the app until it's due again
Deletions Deleting a notebook or a note on one side makes it disappear on the other too
Limits The same: 250 items per notebook, 1000 characters per text
Language and daily goal The same (5, 10, 15, 20, 30 or 50 cards)
Sharing links and connected apps The account's: you see and manage them from both sides
Account deletion Deletes everything, on both platforms

Changes travel through sync: from the website to the app they arrive when you open or reopen the app, from the app to the website a few seconds after the change. Details in How sync works in the Keeplet app.

What stays different?

Feature Website Android and iPhone app
Organization Spaces, notebooks, notes and flashcards Notebooks, notes and cards. There are no spaces: notebooks from all spaces sit in a single list, and new ones go to the default space
Writing Block editor with formatting Plain-text paragraphs; headings are marked with #
Creating a card Also with cloze {{term}} written by hand By highlighting a sentence in a note, or from the plus button
Review Active and passive mode, keyboard shortcuts Flip card and four ratings; works offline
Reminders Email and push notifications Local notification at a fixed time, and widget
Theme Browser setting Phone setting
Statistics and day streak Calculated on the website Calculated on the phone, from reviews given there
Search Global Notebooks, notes and cards, from 2 letters
Anki import Yes Yes (.txt files only)
Data export (JSON, CSV) Yes No

In particular, the number of cards already reviewed today and the day streak are calculated by each platform from the reviews done there. If you review ten cards on the website, those cards are no longer due for the app either, but its daily goal count still starts from the reviews done on the phone.

What should I avoid?

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the same sign-in method on the app and the website?

No, you need the same account: the app lets you sign in with email, with Google and, on iPhone, with Apple. If you created the account on the website with email and password, sign in to the app with email.

Can I use the website without the app, and the app without the website?

Yes. The website always requires an account; the app also works without one, with data only on the phone.

I reviewed on the website and the app still shows the same cards: why?

Probably the app hasn't synced yet. Close it and reopen it, then check in Profile that the Saving row says All saved. If in doubt, read Keeplet app data not syncing: what to do.

Do the website's cloze exercises work in the app?

Cloze exercises and active mode belong to the website. In the app you review a card by flipping and rating it, always with the four ratings.
