How to set a review reminder in the app

Applies to: Android and iPhone appLast updated:

In the Keeplet app for Android and iPhone you turn on the review reminder from Profile: in the Reminder section switch on Review reminder and, with Time, choose when you want the notification (7:00 PM if you change nothing). The reminder is local: it is scheduled on your phone and doesn't need an account.

Before you start

  • The operating system asks for permission to show notifications. The app asks only when you turn the reminder on, never before.
  • The reminder only arrives on days when you have cards to review and haven't already finished your session.

Steps from Profile

  1. Open the Profile tab. Until you decide, the Profile icon has a dot and the Review reminder row says To set up.
  2. In the Reminder section, switch on the Review reminder toggle.
  3. Allow notifications in your phone's prompt.
  4. Tap Time and choose the hour (24-hour format). The change takes effect immediately.

To turn it off, switch the toggle back off: the row goes back to "One alert a day to remind you to review."

Steps at the end of a review

When you finish a session and the reminder is off, a panel may appear under the summary:

  1. Under "Your pace", choose how many cards a day you want to review (10, 15 or 20).
  2. Under "Want a reminder?", tap the button with the time to change it.
  3. Tap Turn on, then allow notifications. You see "Reminder turned on for 7:00 PM."

If you don't want it, tap Skip: the panel goes away, but it may come back after a later session (at most once a day). You can still turn the reminder on from Profile whenever you like.

How does the notification work?

  • The text is "Time to review" followed by "You have N cards to review. About M minutes."
  • N is the same number shown on the Today screen: it respects your daily goal.
  • Tapping the notification opens the review.
  • The app schedules reminders for the next 7 days, one notification a day, and realigns them whenever you open the app or do a review. If you don't open the app for a week, the reminders run out: reopen it to schedule them again.
  • On Android the time can slip by a few minutes, because the system manages the battery.

What if notifications are blocked?

If you refuse the permission, the toggle goes back to off and you see "Notifications are turned off for Keeplet. You can turn them on in your phone settings." with an Open settings button. Turn on notifications for Keeplet in your phone settings, then switch the toggle on again. If you remove the permission later, the app notices and switches the toggle off by itself.

Frequently asked questions

Does the reminder work without an account?

Yes. It is a local notification scheduled on your phone: it doesn't go through the server and works even without a connection.

Why didn't I get the notification today?

The reminder doesn't fire if today's time has already passed, if you've already reached your daily goal, if you have no cards due at the chosen time, if Keeplet notifications are blocked on your phone, or if you haven't opened the app for more than seven days.

How many notifications do I get per day?

Just one, at the time you chose.

Is the bell on Today the same as the reminder?

No. The Notifications bell, which you see in Today only with an account, is a list of service alerts (cards to review, day streaks). The reminder is the phone notification scheduled by the app.

Can I get a reminder on the website too?

The Keeplet website has its own notifications (email and push) with different settings: see the website guide.
