Keeplet app data not syncing: what to do

Applies to: Android and iPhone appLast updated:

If changes in the Keeplet app for Android and iPhone don't reach the website, or the other way around, open the Profile and read the Saving row: it tells you whether all is well ("All saved") or how many changes are waiting to be sent. The most common causes are having no account, an expired session or no network.

Before you start

Your changes are not lost if they can't go out: they stay on the phone and are retried. But avoid tapping Sign out or uninstalling the app while the Saving row shows changes to send.

Steps to check

  1. Do you have an account? If at the top of the Profile you read "You're using Keeplet without an account", your data stays only on the phone and there is no sync. Tap Save your progress (see Save your progress).
  2. Are you signed in to the right account? Under the Profile title, check the name or email: they must be the ones you use to sign in to the website.
  3. Has the session expired? If the Profile says "The session has expired. Sign in again to keep saving.", tap Sign in again and sign in with the same account. The app also offers it by itself with the "Session expired" screen. What you have on the phone is safe and is sent after you sign in.
  4. Look at the Saving row. If it says "N changes to send", the app is waiting for the network or the server. Check your connection, then close and reopen the app: a new attempt starts when it opens.
  5. Wait a few minutes. After a failed attempt the app retries by itself after 30 seconds, then 1, 2 and 5 minutes.
  6. To see on the phone a change made on the website, close and reopen the app, or come back to the app from another one. The website does not "push" it into the app while you keep it open.

What if the row says "All saved" but something is missing?

  • A change made on the website a few seconds ago. Reopen the app to read it.
  • Features that don't sync by design. Theme, reminder, widget, statistics and day streak stay on the phone; language and daily goal are synced. See Use the app and the website together.
  • A paragraph with "Other version: ". The notice "A paragraph was also edited elsewhere: the other version is right below." means you edited the same paragraph on two devices: the app kept both versions. Delete the one you don't need.
  • Missing items in a full notebook. A notebook has at most 250 items. If it is already full on the server, the app warns you: "A notebook already has the maximum of 250 items: the extra ones were not saved." Those items are not retried: move or delete something and write them again. All the limits are in App limits.

What if "Account deleted" appears?

It means the account was deleted from another device or from the website. If there were no changes waiting, the data is removed from the phone. If there were unsent changes, they stay on the phone as data without an account: create a new one with Save your progress so you don't lose them.

Frequently asked questions

Can I sync manually?

There is no button. Closing and reopening the app starts a new attempt right away.

The number of changes to send doesn't go down: what do I do?

Check your connection and reopen the app. If the number stays stuck for a long time, avoid signing out: Sign out removes the data from the phone, and if there are changes in the queue the app warns you that you would lose them.

I imported from Anki or copied a notebook and I can't see it

Those are operations that happen on the server and are then read by the app. Close and reopen the app and check the notebooks list.

The Share button says the notebook isn't saved

If you see "The notebook isn't saved to your account yet. Try again after syncing.", the notebook is still in the queue: wait until the Saving row says All saved and try again.
