Keeplet notifications not working: what to check

Applies to: websiteLast updated:

If Keeplet website notifications don't arrive, open Settings › Notifications and check three things: that the Email reminders and Push notifications switches are on, that the browser has permission to show notifications, and that you really have flashcards coming due. Notifications are sent only when there is something to review.

Checks for push notifications

  1. Open Settings › Notifications and see whether a notice appears above the switches:
    • "Push notifications are not yet enabled on this browser": click Enable and allow notifications.
    • "Notification permission denied. Enable it from browser settings.": you refused the permission. Open the site settings in your browser (usually from the icon next to the address), set notifications to Allow, then turn the switch back on.
    • "Your browser doesn't support push notifications": use an up-to-date browser such as Chrome, Edge or Firefox.
    • A notice about Safari and iPhone: follow Notifications on iPhone.
  2. Check that the Push notifications switch is on. Notifications are turned on per browser: if you turned them on on your computer, you have to turn them on again on your phone.
  3. If you cleared the site's data from the browser, turn Push notifications off and on again: this registers the device again.
  4. Check your device settings: do not disturb or focus modes, battery saver and notifications turned off for the browser can hide them.
  5. If you use Smart and don't see the I remember it and Open buttons, it depends on the browser: tap the notification to open the review.

Checks for the email reminder

  1. In Settings › Notifications, check that Email reminders is on.
  2. Look for the "Review reminder" email (it is in Italian, "Promemoria ripasso", if your account language is Italiano) in your spam or promotions folder too. It arrives at the address you used to create the account.
  3. Remember the limit: Keeplet checks every hour and writes to you at most once every 24 hours, even if many cards are coming due.
  4. The Review now button in the email opens the review page on the website directly. If you aren't signed in, it first asks you to sign in.

When does Keeplet send no notification?

  • You have no flashcards coming due. Plain notes don't generate reminders. For due dates, read Card review status.
  • You already received the notice for those cards. A card is flagged only once for each due date: if you haven't reviewed it, you won't get a second notice for the same due date.
  • You turned push notifications off from another device. Turning them off applies to the whole account: turn them back on from Settings › Notifications.

Frequently asked questions

How long is it between a card coming due and the notification?

Not long: Keeplet checks for due cards every few minutes. The email, instead, goes out on an hourly check.

Can I receive reminders at an exact time?

Not on the website: they arrive when cards come due. The app for Android and iPhone, on the other hand, has a reminder at a time you choose: read The app reminder doesn't arrive if you have trouble with that one.

Will I get notifications even if I no longer use Keeplet?

If push notifications are on and you haven't reviewed for at least 3 days, Keeplet sends you a reminder titled "Your review is waiting". With push notifications on you also get a notice when your streak reaches a milestone (3, 7, 14, 30 days and beyond). To stop, turn off Push notifications and Email reminders.

On iPhone I don't see the push notifications switch

That's normal if the website hasn't been added to your Home Screen: see Notifications on iPhone.
