How to install Keeplet as an app from your browser

Applies to: websiteLast updated:

The Keeplet website can be installed as an app from your browser: on a computer and on Android you use the install command in the browser menu; on iPhone you open keeplet.app in Safari, tap the share icon and choose Add to Home Screen. It stays the same website, with the same account, but opens in its own window, with the Keeplet icon.

Before you start

Open keeplet.app and sign in. You don't need to install anything to use Keeplet: installing is for launching it like an app and, on iPhone, for receiving notifications. This page is about the website installed from the browser, not the app for Android and iPhone downloaded from the stores: to understand the differences, read Use the app and website together.

Steps on a computer (Chrome, Edge)

  1. Open keeplet.app in your browser.
  2. Look for the install command: usually an icon in the address bar, or an item in the browser menu (three dots) named after the app, "Keeplet", for example "Install Keeplet".
  3. Confirm. Keeplet opens in a window without an address bar and appears in your list of apps.

Steps on Android

  1. Open keeplet.app with your browser (for example Chrome).
  2. Open the browser menu and choose the command to install the app or add it to the Home screen.
  3. Confirm. You find the Keeplet icon on your Home screen.

Steps on iPhone

  1. Open keeplet.app with Safari.
  2. Tap the share icon at the bottom.
  3. Choose Add to Home Screen and confirm.
  4. Open Keeplet from the icon you just created, not from Safari.

With another browser on iPhone, notifications are not available: the website points this out with "On iPhone, push notifications only work with Safari." Full instructions for notifications are in Notifications on iPhone.

What changes after installing?

  • Keeplet opens on its own in a window or full screen, without the browser bar. It takes you straight to Home if you are already signed in.
  • When there is a new version, "New version available" appears at the top with the Update now button: click it and the website reloads updated.
  • Notes, cards and statistics are always those of your account and require a connection. Only review ratings are queued if the network drops: see What happens if you go offline during review.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to install Keeplet to use it?

No. The website works in the browser as always. Installing is convenient, and on iPhone it is required for the website's notifications.

I don't see the install command. Why?

Commands change from browser to browser and from version to version. The command may be missing if the website is already installed, in a private window, or in a browser that doesn't offer it. On iPhone always use Safari with Add to Home Screen.

Do notifications require installing?

On iPhone, yes. On computer and Android, no: you turn them on from the website, as explained in Email reminders and push notifications.

How do I uninstall it?

Like any app: from the menu of the Keeplet window in the browser on a computer, or by long-pressing the icon on your Home screen. Your data stays in your account.

Do I have to sign in again after installing?

It can happen, especially on iPhone, where the app added to the Home Screen doesn't always share your sign-in with Safari. Use the same credentials as always.
