The Keeplet app notification center

Applies to: Android and iPhone appLast updated:

In the Keeplet app for Android and iPhone, the notification center is the list of alerts the server prepares for your account, for example "You have 12 cards waiting for review". You open it with the bell on the Today screen. You need an account and a connection: without an account the bell does not appear.

Before you start

  • The notification center is not the reminder. The Review reminder (Profile, Reminder section) is a phone notification at a time you choose, even without an account and without a network: see Set a review reminder. The notification center, instead, is a page inside the app: it does not send alerts to your phone.
  • The bell is also missing if your session has expired. In that case sign in again from the Profile.

Steps

  1. Open the Today tab.
  2. Tap the bell to the right of the title. If there are alerts to read, a number (up to "99+") tells you how many.
  3. Notifications opens, with the alerts from newest to oldest.
  4. Tap an alert to mark it as read. Alerts about review open your review directly.
  5. To mark everything at once, tap Mark all as read: the button only appears if there are unread alerts.

How do I read an alert?

Each row has an icon, a title, the text and, below, when it arrived: "Today, 2:30 PM", "Yesterday", "3 days ago" and, after 30 days, the date ("September 12"). Unread alerts have a yellow icon and the New label; once read they become fainter.

Which alerts do I get?

Alert When it arrives What a tap does
Cards to review ("You have N cards waiting for review") When you have cards due Opens your review
Your review is waiting ("You haven't reviewed for a few days: your cards are piling up") After at least 3 days without reviewing Opens your review
N days in a row ("You're keeping your review streak going") When your streak reaches 3, 7, 14, 30, 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300 or 365 days Nothing: it is just a notice

For cards to review and inactivity the server does not create a new alert while there is an unread one or while it has created one in the last 24 hours; the streak alert arrives only once per milestone. Title and text follow the app language. The app has no settings to choose which alerts you receive.

When does the number on the bell update?

When the app starts and when you come back to it from another app, at most once a minute. The full list is read from the server every time you open Notifications.

What do I see if there is no connection?

  • With no network: "You're offline" and "You need internet to read notifications. Check your connection and try again.", with the Try again button.
  • If the server has a problem: "Couldn't load notifications".
  • If the refresh fails but you already had a list: the list stays, with the notice "Couldn't refresh the list" and Try again.
  • If there is nothing: "No notifications" and "When there's something to tell you, you'll find it here."

Frequently asked questions

Why don't I see the bell?

Because you are using the app without an account or with an expired session. Save your progress from the Profile to get it: see Save your progress.

Can I delete an alert?

No: you can only mark it as read. There is no command to delete it.

Why doesn't my phone alert me when a notification arrives?

Notification center alerts can only be read inside the app. For a phone alert at a fixed time, use the reminder; to see the number of cards from your Home screen, use the widget. If the reminder does not arrive, see Reminder not arriving.

Do the same alerts appear on the website?

They are account alerts, not phone alerts: the website reads the same list. An alert of a type the app does not recognize is shown anyway, with the title and text written by the server.
