How to add the Keeplet widget to your Home screen

Applies to: Android and iPhone appLast updated:

The Keeplet app for Android and iPhone has a Home screen widget that shows the number of cards to review today and, with one tap, opens your review. You add it from your phone's normal widget menu by searching for "Keeplet". There is only one widget, in a small size.

Before you start

  • Open the Keeplet app at least once: the widget shows the data the app passes to it. If it has no data yet, the widget says "Open Keeplet".
  • The widget also works without an account and without a connection, because it reads the cards saved on your phone.
  • The exact menu steps depend on your phone model and system version.

Steps on Android

  1. Press and hold an empty spot on your Home screen.
  2. Tap Widgets.
  3. Find Keeplet in the list and look for the widget with the card count preview.
  4. Press and hold the widget and drag it where you want it on the Home screen. It is 2×2 in size and cannot be resized.

Steps on iPhone

  1. Press and hold an empty spot on your Home screen until the icons start to jiggle.
  2. Tap the + button at the top.
  3. Search for Keeplet in the widget list.
  4. Choose the widget (only the small size is available) and tap Add Widget.
  5. Place the widget on your Home screen and tap Done.

What does the widget show?

  • A large number: the cards in today's session, the same number as in the sentence "You have N cards to review today" on the Today screen. It respects your daily goal.
  • A line under the number: "N cards for today" or, when you are finished, "You're done for today".
  • One tap on the widget opens the app directly on your review.
  • The colors follow your phone's light or dark theme.

When does the widget update?

The app updates the widget every time your cards, your ratings or your daily goal change. At midnight the widget switches by itself to the count expected for the next day, even if the app is closed. The number reflects what the app calculated the last time you used it: if you want to be sure it is up to date, open the app.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have more than one widget or change its size?

No. There is a single widget, 2×2 on Android and small on iPhone.

Why does the widget say "Open Keeplet"?

It means the app has not yet written the widget data. Open the app once and the number appears.

Does the widget show all my due cards?

It shows the cards in today's session, which means the due cards up to your daily goal. If more cards are due, you will find the rest by continuing your review. See The Today screen.

Does the widget replace the reminder?

No, they are independent: the widget is an at-a-glance view on your Home screen, while the reminder is a notification at the time you choose. The steps are in Set a review reminder.
