The guided first notebook in the Keeplet app
In the Keeplet app for Android and iPhone the first-notebook guide walks you through four steps: you name the notebook, write a note, turn a sentence into a card and review it. It starts from Create your first notebook on the welcome screen, or from Guide me when the app offers it.
Before you start
You don't need an account and a couple of minutes is enough. The welcome screen ("Took notes and can't remember a thing?") only appears on first launch, if you don't have any notebooks or an account yet. Under the button the app reminds you that your data stays on your phone: see How to use the Keeplet app without an account.
Steps
- On the welcome screen, tap Create your first notebook.
- "Step 1 of 4" appears: "What's your notebook called?" Type the name in the Notebook name field, or tap a suggestion (History, Biology, Law, English), which fills the field for you.
- Tap Create notebook. The button stays disabled while the name is empty or longer than 100 characters.
- The notebook opens and the "Step 2 of 4" card appears at the bottom: "Add your first note". Tap Add note, write or paste a paragraph from a lesson and tap Save.
- The card moves on to "Step 3 of 4": "Pick a sentence to remember". Press and hold a word, drag to the end of the sentence and tap Create card. The sentence becomes the answer: write the question and tap Save. This card has no buttons, because the action is the gesture on the text.
- With "Step 4 of 4" ("Now review your card") tap Review now. The review opens with that single card: flip it, choose how well you remembered it and you reach the Review finished screen. If you'd rather wait, tap Later.
Every card has Skip the guide: it closes the guide and leaves the notebook as it is. If you skip it from step 1, the app takes you straight to Today without creating any notebook.
How does the app know which step I'm on?
The step is worked out from what's in the notebook, not from a counter. With no notes you see step 2; with at least one note and no card, step 3; as soon as a card exists, step 4. If you close the app halfway, the card waits for you in the same notebook.
What happens next
The guide ends when you tap Review now, Later or Skip the guide, and the card doesn't appear again. The notebook and the card stay yours. The card will come back when the rating you gave says so: see How to rate a card: the four ratings.
What is the "Keeplet in 30 seconds" notebook?
It is a trial notebook with one note and four cards that explain the basics (how to create a card, why reviewing matters, the four ratings). The app adds it only once, the first time you close the welcome, whether you follow the guide or skip it. Its name and cards follow the app language at the moment it is added: in Italian it is called "Keeplet in 30 secondi", in English "Keeplet in 30 seconds". If you change language later, the notebook already added stays as it is.
When you've reviewed all its cards and haven't added, removed or changed anything in the notebook (not even the text of a note or card), the app deletes it by itself at the end of the session and tells you: "The notebook "Keeplet in 30 seconds" was removed: it did its job." If you edit it, it stays yours. You can still delete it whenever you like, like any other notebook.
Where does "Guide me" appear?
The app offers the guide just once, to people who don't have anything of their own yet. It happens when you tap the + button (New card), Write a note in Today, or New notebook in the notebooks list: the "Want a guide?" sheet opens with Guide me and No, thanks. In an empty notebook you also find the Guide me step by step button.
If you answer No, thanks, close the sheet or skip the guide, the app doesn't offer it again and there is no entry in Profile to redo it. The steps remain the same, and you'll find them explained in the dedicated articles.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to follow the guide to use the app?
No. Skip the guide doesn't remove any feature: you can create notebooks, notes and cards whenever you want from the Notebooks and Today screens.
Can I rename the notebook after creating it?
Yes, at any time: the guide itself says so. See How to create, rename and delete a notebook in the app.
Why don't I see the guide card in my notebook?
The card only appears in the notebook created by the guide and only while the guide is active. If you skipped it, or ended it with Review now or Later, it doesn't come back.
Does the guide work without a connection?
Yes. The notebook, the note, the card and the review all live on your phone, so all four steps work even without a network.
