Your first Keeplet notebook in 5 minutes

Applies to: websiteLast updated:

On the Keeplet website you create your first notebook in five steps: you create a space, add a notebook, write a note, turn it into a flashcard and review it. If you have just created your account, a sample notebook, Keeplet in 30 seconds, is already there, and you can jump straight to the review.

Before you start

You need a Keeplet account: if you do not have one yet, read How to create a Keeplet account. In Keeplet, notes are organized on three levels: a space (for example a subject or a course), a notebook inside the space (for example a chapter), and notes and flashcards inside the notebook.

What is the "Keeplet in 30 seconds" notebook?

On your first visit, if you do not have any spaces of your own yet, Keeplet creates the Sample space with a notebook called Keeplet in 30 seconds. It contains a welcome note and 4 flashcards that explain how Keeplet works, including a cloze example. After the guided tutorial the Ready for your first review? window appears: press Start review to try a 4-card session right away, or Later. You can delete the sample space whenever you like.

Steps

  1. In the left menu, next to Spaces, press the + button (Add space).
  2. Type the name of the space, for example "Biology", and press Enter. The space page opens.
  3. Press New notebook, type the name (for example "The cell") and press Create.
  4. Open the notebook by clicking its card. Click in the sheet and write a note, for example "The mitochondrion produces the cell's energy". Press Enter to start a new block. Keeplet saves on its own: at the top you see "Saved at" followed by the time.
  5. Select with the mouse the sentence you want to remember and press Create card in the bubble that appears. A flashcard appears under the note with the sentence as its answer: type the question in place of "What do you want to remember?", for example "What does the mitochondrion produce?".
  6. Go to Home and press Start review. Press Show the answer and then rate how well you remembered it with one of the four buttons: Not at all, A little, Somewhat, Great.

On a phone the path is the same: from the bottom bar open Notebooks and press New space; the Today tab is the Home page, where you find Start review.

What happens next

Each rating button shows when the card will come back (for example "tomorrow" or "in 3 days"): the better you remember it, the further away the next review is. When a card is due you find it in the To review count in the menu and on the Home page. For details read How to do a review session in Keeplet and How to rate a card during review.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to create the first notebook?

About five minutes: two to create the space and notebook, two to write a note and a flashcard, one for the first review.

Do I have to create a space before the notebook?

Yes, every notebook lives inside a space. At sign-up Keeplet already creates the space General with a notebook Notes (Generale and Note if you signed up in Italian): you can use them right away or create your own.

Can I write a note without opening the notebook?

Yes. From the Home page tap the "Write note content..." field, press Add, choose the space and the notebook and press Create. From the menu, the New card button opens the same form already set to flashcard.

My note became a flashcard: can I go back?

Yes. Press the handle to the left of the block and choose Turn into note. If the card has already been reviewed, Keeplet warns you that the review statistics will be lost.

Where do I find the same path in the app?

Do you use the app for Android or iPhone? Start from The Today screen in the Keeplet app.
