How to use the Keeplet app without an account
Yes, the Keeplet app for Android and iPhone works without an account: on first launch you tap Create your first notebook and you can write notes, create cards and review right away. Without an account your data stays only on this phone, until you decide to save it.
Before you start
You only need the app installed. You don't have to enter an email, password or any other details. The welcome screen says it clearly: "No account needed. Your data stays on this phone."
Steps
- Open the app. On the welcome screen ("Took notes and can't remember a thing?") tap Create your first notebook.
- When asked "What's your notebook called?" type the name of a subject, or tap a suggestion (History, Biology, Law, English).
- Tap Create notebook. The app opens the notebook and walks you through a four-step guide ("Step 1 of 4", "Step 2 of 4" and so on).
- In step 2 tap Add note, then write or paste a paragraph from a lesson.
- In step 3 press and hold a word, drag to the end of the sentence and tap Create card. The sentence becomes the answer and you write the question.
- In step 4 tap Review now to review your first card. If you'd rather wait, tap Later.
You can tap Skip the guide at any time. If you skip the first step, the app takes you straight to Today.
What is already in the app?
The first time you close the welcome, the app adds a trial notebook, "Keeplet in 30 seconds", with 4 cards so you can see how the review works. When you've reviewed them all, if you haven't edited it, the notebook is removed by itself.

What happens to my data without an account?
Notebooks, notes, cards and review history are saved in the app's storage on your phone. There is no copy on the server: if you uninstall the app, clear its data or change phone, without an account you won't get them back.
That's why, after you've created something of your own, the app offers once to save your progress. On the Today screen, after the first review, the line "Your data is only on this phone." also appears with the Save button. In Profile the Save your progress button is always available. You'll find all the steps in Save your progress with email, Google or Apple.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to create an account to use the Keeplet app?
No. The Keeplet app for Android and iPhone can be used right away, without signing up. The account is only for having a copy of your data on the server, using the same notebooks on another phone or on the website, and for the features listed in the table above.
Can I create the account later without losing my notebooks?
Yes. When you save your progress, the notebooks, notes and cards on your phone are added to your account. Note: the reviews done so far aren't carried over, so the cards start again as new. We explain it in Save your progress with email, Google or Apple.
Does the app work without an internet connection?
Without an account, yes: everything happens on the phone, so you can write, create cards and review even without a network. You only need a connection to create the account or sign in.
Can I use the Keeplet website without an account?
No. The Keeplet website requires an account (email or Google). See How to create a Keeplet account.
