How to select and edit multiple blocks at once
On the Keeplet website you select several blocks in three ways: from the handle menu with Select, by dragging a rectangle over an empty area of the page, or by pressing Ctrl+A (⌘A on Mac) with the cursor in a block. With the blocks chosen, a bar appears with Move and Delete.
Before you start
Open a notebook with at least two blocks. A block is a note or a flashcard: you can choose them together, even mixed. The rectangle only works with a mouse; on a phone use Select.
Steps
- Choose how to select:
- Menu: click the handle to the left of a block and choose Select. Check circles appear and the starting block is already chosen; click the other blocks, or their circles, to add or remove them.
- Rectangle: press the mouse in an empty area, for example in the margin, and drag over the blocks. The ones touched by the rectangle are highlighted.
- All: press Ctrl+A (⌘A) while the cursor is in a block. It selects all the blocks of the notebook, not the text.
- At the top the text "1 selected" or "N selected" tells you how many there are, and at the bottom the bar with Move and Delete appears. Until at least one block is chosen the two buttons are disabled.
- Press the action you need (see below).
- To exit without doing anything press Cancel next to the count at the top. A click on an empty spot of the page clears a selection made with the rectangle or with Ctrl+A.
What can I do with several blocks?
| Action | How |
|---|---|
| Move them to another notebook | Move, then choose the notebook. Cards keep their review schedule. See How to move notes and flashcards to another notebook |
| Delete them | Delete, or Backspace with the blocks selected |
| Copy their text | Ctrl+C (⌘C): the text of the blocks goes to the clipboard, one per line. For flashcards only the question is copied |
Other actions, such as turning into a card, duplicating or formatting, work on one block at a time, from its menu.
What happens when I delete?
If the chosen blocks are only notes, they are deleted immediately and "Blocks deleted" appears. If there is at least one already saved flashcard, Keeplet asks for confirmation with "Delete N items?" and the text "This removes the selected flashcards."; press Yes, delete to proceed. To go back press Ctrl+Z (⌘Z) right after: the deleted blocks are restored with the message "Undone: blocks restored". Ctrl+Z remembers at most the last 20 actions.
Frequently asked questions
How do I select all the blocks?
Click inside a block and press Ctrl+A (⌘A on Mac). You do not need to select the text: the command chooses all the blocks, then you can press Move or Delete.
Why doesn't Backspace delete the blocks?
Backspace deletes blocks only if you are not typing inside one of them: after Ctrl+A or after the rectangle the cursor leaves the text and it works. If you are typing, Backspace erases letters. Alternatively use the Delete button.
Can I turn several notes into flashcards in one go?
No. With several blocks selected the actions are Move, Delete and copying the text. To turn a note into a card, open the menu of its block and choose Turn into card: see How to create a flashcard from a note in Keeplet.
Can I select several blocks on a phone?
Yes: tap the handle of a block, choose Select, tap the other blocks to add them and use Move or Delete in the bottom bar. While you are selecting, the text cannot be edited.
