# How to write in the Keeplet editor

Applies to: website · Last updated: 2026-10-29

In the Keeplet website editor every notebook is a continuous page made of **blocks**: you write, press Enter to start a new block, and drag the handle on the left to reorder them. Each block is either a **note** or a **flashcard**, and everything saves by itself a moment after your last edit.

## Before you start

Open a notebook from the page of its space (see [How to create a notebook in Keeplet](/en/help/web/create-a-notebook)). At the top you find the title, which you can edit, and the **All** / **Cards only** selector; at the bottom there is always an empty block ready for writing.

## Steps

1. Click in the sheet, in the empty block at the bottom, and write.
2. Press Enter to close the block and start a new one. If the cursor is in the middle of a sentence, the text that follows moves into the new block.
3. To start a new line within the same block press Shift+Enter.
4. To reorder, drag the six-dot handle to the left of the block and release it in the new position. On a phone drag the handle with your finger.
5. For other actions on the block click the handle: a menu opens with **Edit**, **Turn into card**, **Select**, **Move up**, **Move down**, **Move to another notebook…**, **Duplicate** and **Delete note**.
6. Check the status text at the top: "Saving..." while you write, then "Saved at" followed by the time.

## How does saving work?

Keeplet saves about one second after you stop writing. If saving fails you see "Not saved, retrying…" and the website retries every 5 seconds. Changes to notes need a connection: if you are offline they stay on the page and are saved when the network returns, but only as long as the page stays open. Wait for "Saved at" before closing it.

## How do I delete or undo?

From the handle menu choose **Delete note**: notes are deleted immediately, while for an already saved flashcard Keeplet asks for confirmation with "Delete the flashcard?" and **Yes, delete**. To go back press Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on Mac): it restores blocks you deleted or merged by mistake, up to 20 actions, and shows the message "Undone: blocks restored". Ctrl+Z acts on blocks, not on single letters you typed.

## How do I select several blocks at once?

From the handle menu choose **Select**: check circles appear. Tap the blocks you want and use the bar at the bottom with **Move** and **Delete**; at the top you see "N selected" and **Cancel** to exit. On a computer you can also drag a rectangle over the blocks starting from an empty spot on the page, or press Ctrl+A (Cmd+A) with the cursor in a block to choose them all.

## Can I paste text from other apps?

Yes. When you paste from web pages, Word or Notion, bold, italic, headings and lists are kept; colors, fonts and images are removed and links keep only their text. This keeps your notes clean.

## Frequently asked questions

### How many blocks can a notebook have?

Up to 250, notes and flashcards combined. From the 200th block a counter appears at the top; at the limit Keeplet shows "You have reached the maximum of 250 blocks per notebook".

### Can I insert images or tables in notes?

No. Keeplet notes contain text with bold, italic, headings and lists. For the formatting rules read [How to format text in Keeplet notes](/en/help/web/format-text-in-notes).

### Why does my change not show as saved?

Wait for the message "Saved at" at the top. If it stays on "Not saved, retrying…" check your connection: the website retries by itself every few seconds until it succeeds.

### Can I write a note without opening the notebook?

Yes: from the Home page use "Write note content..." and **Add**, choose the space and notebook and press **Create**.

### How do I write a note in the app for Android and iPhone?

The app has a different editor, with paragraphs and card creation by highlighting. Read [How to create a card by highlighting text](/en/help/app/create-a-card-by-highlighting).
