# How to turn a flashcard back into a note

Applies to: website · Last updated: 2026-10-29

On the Keeplet website a flashcard becomes a note again from its handle menu: choose **Turn into note** and confirm with **Yes, convert**. The question stays, the answer is added to the note text and the block no longer appears in review.

## Before you start

You need a notebook with at least one flashcard. If the card has already been reviewed, Keeplet warns you before converting it: read the message, because the conversion cannot be undone with Ctrl+Z (Ctrl+Z only restores deleted or merged blocks).

## Steps

1. Open the notebook and click the six-dot handle to the left of the card. You recognize it by the label above the question, for example "Card, back tomorrow".
2. In the menu choose **Turn into note**.
3. The **Convert to note** window appears:
   - if the card has never been reviewed it says "The answer will be added to the note text.";
   - if you have reviewed it, it says that the answer and the review statistics, with the number of reviews and the accuracy, will be lost.
4. Press **Yes, convert** (or **Cancel** to leave everything as it is).
5. The message "Flashcard converted to note" appears: the block is now a note, with the question followed by the answer.

## How do I make it a card again?

From the note's handle menu choose **Turn into card**. An empty note cannot be converted: the warning "Write something before converting to flashcard" appears. After the conversion check the question and answer: the text that used to be the answer is now inside the note, so you may need to remove it and rewrite it in the **Answer** field. The complete procedure is in [How to create a flashcard from a note in Keeplet](/en/help/web/create-a-flashcard-from-a-note).

## How do I open a card's note during review?

In passive-mode review, after **Show the answer**, press **See in the note** (or the pencil **Edit the card**): the notebook that contains the card opens. You leave the session, but the ratings already given stay saved. In cloze cards and in active mode this button is not there.

## What is the highlighted phrase in the note?

When a card comes from a phrase in the note, in browsers that support it the phrase appears highlighted in yellow. Keeplet links each card to the note that precedes it and looks in its text for the card's answer; if it finds it, it highlights it. The highlight is not saved: it depends on the text on the page, so it disappears if you edit the phrase or the answer.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do I lose the card's text?

No: the question stays and the answer is added right after it in the note text. What is lost, as the warning says, is the card's review data.

### Can I turn several cards into notes together?

No. With several blocks selected the actions are only **Move** and **Delete**: conversion is done one block at a time, from its menu. See [How to select and edit multiple blocks at once](/en/help/web/select-and-edit-multiple-blocks).

### Does the converted note still appear in review?

No. Review only offers flashcards: a note has no review due date.

### I converted a card by mistake: can I undo?

Ctrl+Z does not undo conversions. Use **Turn into card** on the block and check that the question and answer are as before.

### Where do I see when a card will come back?

Above the question of each card: read [How to read a card's review status](/en/help/web/card-review-status).
