# How to review on your phone with swipe

Applies to: website · Last updated: 2026-10-29

On the Keeplet website, on a touch screen, you can rate cards with your fingers during review: tap the card to flip it, swipe right if you remembered it (**Remembered**), left if you did not (**Didn't remember**), and up to skip it. The on-screen buttons are always available.

## Before you start

You need an open review session (see [How to do a review session in Keeplet](/en/help/web/do-a-review-session)). Swipes work on the card, not on the rest of the page, and count for a finger movement of at least about one centimeter: a tap or a short movement does nothing.

## Steps

1. Read the **Question** and try to recall the answer.
2. Tap the card to flip it (like pressing **Show the answer**). The **Answer** appears.
3. Swipe your finger across the card:

| Gesture | What it does |
|---|---|
| Tap | Flips the card and shows the answer |
| Swipe right | **Remembered** |
| Swipe left | **Didn't remember** |
| Swipe up | Skips the card without rating it |

4. After the rating, "Marked:" appears with the rating and the **Undo** button, which stays for three seconds, then you move on to the next card.

With swipes you only get two outcomes. If you want the four-level scale (**Not at all**, **A little**, **Somewhat**, **Great**), use the buttons under the card.

## What changes depending on the mode?

- **Passive** with the answer still hidden: the first swipe right or left flips the card, and you give the rating with a second swipe.
- **Cloze exercises** (terms inside `{{ }}`): the first swipe right or left reveals the hidden term, the second rates that step. If the card has several terms it repeats for each one.
- **Active** (word reorder): swiping right or left only counts after you have completed the exercise; before that it does nothing. Swiping up always skips.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do swipes also work on a computer?

No, they need fingers on a touch screen. On a computer you use the mouse or the keyboard: see [Keeplet keyboard shortcuts](/en/help/web/keyboard-shortcuts).

### Can I give the four ratings with swipes?

No. Right means **Remembered** and left means **Didn't remember**. For **Not at all**, **A little**, **Somewhat** and **Great** press the buttons under the card.

### I swiped the wrong way, can I go back?

Yes: for three seconds after the rating **Undo** appears. If you press it, the card comes back and you can rate it again. Swiping up sends nothing, so there is nothing to undo.

### Does swiping up delete the card?

No. It only skips the card in this session, without rating it: the card stays due and will come back in a later session.

### The swipe does not respond, what do I check?

Swipe on the card itself, with one finger and a gesture longer than a centimeter, more horizontal than vertical. If it does not work, use the buttons: they do the same things.
