# How to do a review session in Keeplet

Applies to: website · Last updated: 2026-10-29

To do a review session on the Keeplet website, open **Home** and click **Start review** (or **To review** in the left-hand menu): Keeplet shows you the flashcards that are due one at a time and you rate them. A session takes a few minutes and the number of cards depends on your daily goal.

## Before you start

You need flashcards that are due. New cards are due right away; cards you have already reviewed come back when the SM-2 algorithm decides (see [Spaced repetition](/en/help/concepts/spaced-repetition)). On Home, the card at the top tells you how many cards you have to review and an estimate of the time, for example "Today you have 12 cards to review. About 6 minutes."

## Steps

1. On Home, click **Start review**. The left-hand menu shows the **To review** item with the number of cards due; on a phone, Home is the **Today** tab.
2. Read the **Question**. Try to recall the answer before looking at it.
3. Click **Show the answer** (from the keyboard, Space, or tap the card). The **Answer** appears.
4. At the question "How well did you remember it?", choose a button: **Not at all**, **A little**, **Somewhat** or **Great**. Each button shows when the card will come back, for example "tomorrow" or "in 3 days". From the keyboard, use keys 1 to 4.
5. Move on to the next card and repeat. At the top you see the progress bar and the counter, for example "3 of 15".
6. At the end the **Done for today.** screen appears with the summary.

On phones and tablets, instead of the buttons you can swipe the card: see [How to review on your phone with swipe](/en/help/web/review-on-your-phone-with-swipe).

For cards with only a question and no answer, step 3 doesn't exist: the rating buttons appear right away.

If you choose **Active** above the card, the review becomes a reorder exercise: you put the words of the answer back in order, click **Confirm** and the result (**Remembered** or **Didn't remember**) is assigned automatically. See [Active and passive review mode](/en/help/web/active-and-passive-review-mode).

## How many cards does a session offer?

A session offers as many cards as your **daily goal** indicates, minus those you have already reviewed today (at least 1). The default goal is 15 cards; you can choose another in **Settings** › **Preferences** › **Daily goal**, from 5, 10, 15, 20, 30 and 50. If you have more cards due, Home writes "Today you review" followed by how many out of how many. Once you reach the goal, Home says "Today's goal reached." and the button becomes **Continue**: it offers you another round.

## Can I review just one space?

Yes. On a space's page click **Review this space**: the session offers only the cards due in that space. The button is disabled if there is nothing to review in the space. Here too the session stops at the number of cards left in your daily goal.

## Can I go back after a rating?

Yes, for three seconds. After the rating, "Marked:" followed by the rating appears, with the **Undo** button. If you click it, you go back to the card and can rate it again. After three seconds the rating is sent. On the last card of the session there is no **Undo**: you move on to the final screen.

## What do I see at the end of a session?

The **Done for today.** screen shows how many cards you reviewed, the time it took ("It took you 4 minutes."), and how many cards you gave each rating. If you have a streak going, a line like "Streak: 3 days in a row." appears below (you also find it in [Statistics](/en/help/web/read-your-statistics)). The buttons are **Back to Today** and, if you gave **Not at all** or **A little**, **Review the N hardest again** (at most 3 cards) for an extra round.

## What happens if I have no cards or lose my connection?

If there is nothing to review, "Nothing to review!" appears with the **Go to home** button. If the cards don't load, you see "Could not load the cards" and **Try again**. Ratings given while you are offline, or when sending fails, stay queued on the device and are sent when the network returns or when you reopen Keeplet.

## Frequently asked questions

### How often should I review?

Ideally every day, even for a few minutes. Keeplet decides which cards to offer: you review only the ones that are due.

### Can I stop the session?

Yes, click the **x** at the top left (**Close the review**). The cards you have already rated are saved.

### Can I open a card's note during review?

Yes: after flipping the card, click **See in the note** (or the pencil **Edit the card**) to open the notebook. You leave the session, but the ratings already given stay saved.

### Why doesn't the session include all the cards that are due?

A session includes at most as many cards as your daily goal indicates, minus those already reviewed today. To see more, raise the goal in **Preferences** or click **Continue** on Home.

### How do I review with the app for Android and iPhone?

The app has its own **Today** screen. Read [Review cards every day](/en/help/app/review-cards-every-day).
