# How to create and organize spaces in Keeplet

Applies to: website · Last updated: 2026-10-30

On the Keeplet website a **space** is the largest container: it groups the notebooks of a subject or a project. To create one, click the **+** button (**Add space**) next to **Spaces** in the left-hand menu, type the name and press Enter. From there you can also rename it, change its color, reorder it by dragging it or delete it.

## Before you start

You need an account (see [How to create a Keeplet account](/en/help/web/create-a-keeplet-account)). When you sign up, Keeplet creates a **General** space for you with a **Notes** notebook (**Generale** and **Note** if you sign up in Italian): they are the default space and notebook, so they cannot be deleted.

## Steps to create a space

1. In the left-hand menu, click **+** next to **Spaces**. Alternatively, open the **Your spaces** page (the **View all** link on Home) and click **New space**: the same field opens in the menu.
2. In the "Space name..." field, type the name. It can have at most 50 characters.
3. Press Enter or click the check mark to confirm, or the **x** to cancel.
4. Keeplet opens the page of the new space and shows a message with the name of the space you created. Click **New notebook** to add the first notebook.

On a phone, open the **Notebooks** tab in the bottom bar and tap **New space**: the menu opens with the name field.

## How do I rename a space?

You have two ways. In the left-hand menu, click the three dots next to the space and choose **Rename**. On Home or on the **Your spaces** page, click the pencil next to the name instead. Type the new name and press Enter (or the check mark in the menu) to confirm; to cancel, press Esc in the lists or the **x** in the menu.

## How do I change a space's color?

Click the space's colored cover (in the lists) or the three dots in the menu and use the **Color** section. You can choose between Blue, Green, Coral, Violet, Teal and Ochre, or **Automatic**: in that case Keeplet derives the color from the name. Color helps you recognize spaces at a glance in the menu and in the lists.

## How do I change the order of spaces?

In the left-hand menu, drag a space up or down and drop it in its new position. The order is saved; if saving fails, the warning "Error reordering spaces" appears and the list goes back to how it was.

## How do I search or filter spaces?

On the **Your spaces** page, type in the "Search your spaces..." field to show only the spaces whose name contains those letters. Inside a space, the filter shows all notebooks (**All**), only those with cards coming due (**To review**) or the most recent ones (**Recent**); at the top you see a summary with notebooks, cards and cards to review.

## How do I delete a space?

In the left-hand menu, click the three dots next to the space, choose **Delete** and confirm with **Yes, delete**. Deleting also removes all the notebooks, notes and flashcards it contains, and it cannot be undone. The **Delete** option does not appear for the default space.

## Frequently asked questions

### How many spaces can I create?

In the current version of the website there is no maximum number of spaces: the limit applies to the content of each notebook, which can have up to 250 blocks (notes and flashcards).

### What is the difference between a space and a notebook?

A space groups several notebooks, for example "Biology". A notebook is the page where you write notes and flashcards, for example "The cell". See [Create a notebook](/en/help/web/create-a-notebook).

### Can I move a notebook from one space to another?

The website has no command for moving a whole notebook. You can, however, move notes and flashcards to another notebook, even in a different space, from the block menu with **Move to another notebook…**.

### Can I recover a deleted space?

No: deleting a space is permanent. Before you confirm, read the warning message, which reminds you that all the notebooks and notes are deleted too.

### Where do I find spaces in the app for Android and iPhone?

Using the app? Read [The Today screen](/en/help/app/the-today-screen): in the app, content is organized directly into notebooks.
