# How to create a notebook in Keeplet

Applies to: website · Last updated: 2026-10-30

On the Keeplet website you create a **notebook** inside a space: open the space, click **New notebook**, type the name in the "Notebook name" window and click **Create**. The notebook is the page where you write the notes and flashcards of one topic, for example a chapter or a lesson.

## Before you start

You need at least one space. If you haven't created any, use the **General** space that is already there (**Generale** if you signed up in Italian), or read [How to create and organize spaces](/en/help/web/create-and-organize-spaces).

## Steps

1. In the left-hand menu, click the space where you want the notebook, or open it from **Your spaces**.
2. Click **New notebook** at the top right. If the space is empty you find the same button under "This space has no notebooks yet".
3. Type the name in the **Notebook name** field.
4. Click **Create** (or press Enter). The button stays disabled while the name is empty.
5. A message with the name of the new notebook appears and its card is added to the space page.
6. Click the card to open the notebook and start writing.

## Can I create a notebook while writing a note or a card?

Yes. From the **New card** button in the menu, or from Home with "Write note content...", choose the **Space** and then open the **Notebook** list: the last item is **+ Create notebook**. Type the name in "Notebook name..." and click **Create**: the notebook is created together with the note or card.

## How do I rename a notebook?

You have two ways. On the space page, click the pencil next to the notebook name, type the new name and press Enter (Esc to cancel). Or open the notebook, click the title at the top and edit it: the name is saved when you leave the field. An empty title is not allowed: the warning "Title cannot be empty" appears and the previous name is restored.

## What does a notebook card show?

Each card shows the number of notes and cards, for example "3 notes, 5 cards". If some cards are coming due, a label like "4 to review" appears; if the notebook has only notes, the label is "Notes only".

## How do I move notes and flashcards to another notebook?

Inside the notebook, click the handle to the left of the block and choose **Move to another notebook…**. In the window, choose the destination and click **Move to** followed by its name. A card keeps its review schedule. Notebooks that are already full (250 items) cannot be chosen and show "Full: 250 items out of 250". To move several blocks together, first choose **Select** from the block menu, tick the items and click **Move**.

## Frequently asked questions

### How big can a notebook be?

A notebook holds up to 250 blocks, notes and flashcards together. From block 200 a counter like "212 / 250" appears at the top. When you reach the limit, Keeplet shows "You have reached the maximum of 250 blocks per notebook": create another notebook and move some of the blocks there.

### How do I delete a notebook?

On the space page, hover over the notebook card (on touch screens the buttons are always visible, dimmed) and click the trash icon next to the name, labeled **Delete notebook**. The window "Delete this notebook?" appears, saying that the notebook, its notes and its flashcards will be permanently deleted. Click **Delete** to confirm or **Cancel** to leave everything as it is. After you confirm, "Notebook deleted" appears and the card disappears from the list. The operation cannot be undone. The default **Notes** notebook has no trash icon and cannot be deleted.

### What is the difference between a notebook and a space?

A space collects several notebooks; a notebook collects notes and flashcards. Example: space "Biology", notebooks "The cell" and "Genetics".

### Can I give a notebook a color?

Color can only be chosen for a space. Each notebook's cover instead gets an automatic color derived from its name.
