# How to create a flashcard from a note in Keeplet

Applies to: website · Last updated: 2026-10-29

On the Keeplet website you can create a flashcard from a note in two ways: select a sentence and click **Create card** (the sentence becomes the answer and you write the question), or open the block menu with the handle and choose **Turn into card**. The new card is due for review right away.

## Before you start

Open a notebook with at least one note that contains some text (see [Write in the editor](/en/help/web/write-in-the-editor)). A **flashcard** has a question and, usually, an answer; a **note** is free text that is not reviewed.

## Steps: from a selected sentence

1. In the note, select the sentence you want to remember with your mouse. Keeplet extends the selection to word boundaries.
2. In the bubble that appears next to the selection, click **Create card**. The bubble also offers **Copy**.
3. A new card appears below the note: the sentence is in the **Answer** field and the cursor is in the question, which shows "What do you want to remember?".
4. Write the question, for example "What does the mitochondrion produce?".
5. Wait for the "Saved at" message at the top: the card is saved when the question contains some text.

In the note, the source sentence is highlighted in yellow, so you can see where each card comes from (if your browser supports this highlighting).

## Steps: by turning a block into a card

1. Click the six-dot handle to the left of the block.
2. Choose **Turn into card**. "Note converted to flashcard" appears.
3. The block's text becomes the question. Press Enter in the question to move to the **Answer** field and write it.

If the block is empty, Keeplet does not convert it and shows "Write something before converting to flashcard".

## Can I create a card without starting from a note?

Yes. Click **New card** in the menu (on a phone, the **+** button in the bottom bar). A form opens with the question ("Write the question..."), the **Answer**, a choice of **Space** and **Notebook**, and the **Create** button. In the form the answer is required. Inside the notebook you can also switch to the **Cards only** view and write directly: new blocks are flashcards.

## How do I turn a card back into a note?

From the handle menu choose **Turn into note**. A **Convert to note** window warns that the answer will be added to the note text. If the card has already been reviewed, the message also says that the review statistics will be lost (number of reviews and accuracy). Confirm with **Yes, convert**.

## What happens next

Above each card its due date appears: "Card, due today", "Card, back tomorrow" or "Card, back in 6 days". A new card is due right away and you find it in the **To review** count in the menu. After each rating Keeplet works out the next date by itself with the SM-2 algorithm (see [Do a review session](/en/help/web/do-a-review-session)).

## Frequently asked questions

### Can a flashcard have only a question?

Yes. If you leave the **Answer** field empty, during review you see the question and rate directly how well you remembered it, without the **Show the answer** step.

### How do I write a good flashcard?

One idea per card and a clear question, for example "What does the mitochondrion produce?" instead of "Mitochondrion". To hide a word inside a sentence, use [cloze](/en/help/web/create-a-cloze-exercise).

### How many flashcards can I create?

Up to 250 blocks in a notebook, notes and cards together. Beyond that limit, "You have reached the maximum of 250 blocks per notebook" appears.

### Is the card created even if I haven't written the question?

The card appears in the notebook, but it is saved on the server only when the question contains some text. A card left without a question disappears when you reload the page.

### How do I create a card in the app for Android and iPhone?

In the app you highlight the sentence in the note and tap **Create card**. Read [Create a card by highlighting](/en/help/app/create-a-card-by-highlighting).
