# The Today screen in the Keeplet app

Applies to: Android and iPhone app · Last updated: 2026-11-01

The **Today** screen is the first tab of the Keeplet app for Android and iPhone. It tells you how many cards you need to review right now ("You have 14 cards to review today"), how long it takes, and takes you to the review with **Review now**. The number depends on the cards that are due and on your daily goal.

## What do I see when I have cards to review?

1. **The headline at the top**: "You have N cards to review today". N is the number of cards in today's session.
2. **The "Today's session" card**: below it you find an estimate, for example "About 5 minutes, from 2 notebooks". If only one notebook has cards to review, the card carries that notebook's name. The app estimates 20 seconds per card, rounded to the minute (at least 1).
3. **The Review now button**: opens the review with all the cards in the session.
4. **The "To review" list**: if more than one notebook has due cards, each appears with its number of cards. Tapping a notebook reviews only its cards. **All notebooks** takes you to the notebooks list.
5. **"Recent notebooks"**: the notebooks you opened recently, with a highlighted number if they have cards to review.

If you have an account, you also see the **Notifications** bell at the top right; without an account it doesn't appear.

## What is the daily goal?

The daily goal is the maximum number of cards Today offers you in a day. The default is 15 cards. You change it in **Profile**, under **Preferences**, at **Daily goal** (5, 10, 15, 20, 30 or 50 cards).

If more cards are due than your goal, Today shows only the goal's worth and says so on the card: for example "15 of 20 for today. About 5 minutes". Cards you've already reviewed during the day are subtracted from the goal. The others don't disappear: they stay due and you find them when you want to keep going.

## What do I see when I'm done?

When you've reached your goal, or nothing is left to review, the headline becomes "You're done for today." and the card summarizes your day:

- "You reviewed N cards."
- "Your next card comes back today at 6:30", "comes back tomorrow" or "comes back in N days".
- If overdue cards remain beyond the goal: "N more are left. Continue?" with a **Continue** button, to review more.

The day's date is your phone's date: the count of cards reviewed today restarts at midnight, local time.

## What do I see when I have no cards?

If you don't have any cards yet, Today shows the title "Write your notes, really remember them" and three steps: **Write** or paste your notes into a notebook, **Highlight** a phrase to remember (it becomes a card, a question with its answer), **Review** in a few minutes. The **Write a note** button takes you to writing. To create your first card, see [How to create a card by highlighting text](/en/help/app/create-a-card-by-highlighting).

## What if I don't have an account?

After your first review, under Today's headline you see "Your data is only on this phone." with a **Save** button. It isn't mandatory: it reminds you that without an account your data has no copy on the server. See [Save your progress with email, Google or Apple](/en/help/app/save-your-progress).

## Frequently asked questions

### Why does Today show fewer cards than are actually due?

Because Today respects your daily goal (15 cards, if you haven't changed it). If more cards are due than your goal, the card shows "N of M for today". The extra cards aren't lost: you review them by tapping **Continue** at the end of a session, or by raising the goal in **Profile**.

### When does a card appear in Today?

When its review time arrives, calculated by the algorithm from the ratings you gave. New cards, never reviewed, are due immediately. To see how cards are scheduled, read [The SM-2 algorithm in Keeplet](/en/help/concepts/sm2-algorithm-in-keeplet).

### Does Today work offline?

Yes. Today reads the data stored on your phone, so it updates and works even without a network.

### What does the Back button do on Android?

From **Notebooks**, **Statistics** or **Profile**, the Back button (or back gesture) returns to **Today**. From **Today** it leaves the app.

### How do I remember to open Today every day?

Turn on the daily reminder: the steps are in [How to set a review reminder in the app](/en/help/app/set-a-review-reminder). You can also add the [widget](/en/help/app/add-the-home-screen-widget) to your Home screen, which shows the same number of cards.
