# How to search notebooks, notes and cards in the app

Applies to: Android and iPhone app · Last updated: 2026-10-29

In the Keeplet app for Android and iPhone you search by tapping the magnifier at the top of the **Notebooks** tab: type at least 2 letters and, as you type, the app shows the notebooks, notes and cards that contain them. Search ignores uppercase and accents, and works without a connection and without an account.

## Before you start

Search only looks at the data saved on your phone. The only place it opens from is the magnifier in the **Notebooks** tab: there is none in **Today**, **Statistics** or inside a notebook.

## Steps

1. Tap **Notebooks** in the bottom bar.
2. Tap the magnifier (**Search**) next to the **+** button.
3. The **Search** screen opens with the **Word to search for** field ("Notebooks, notes and cards") ready to type in. Below you read "Type a word to search for it."
4. Type at least 2 letters. With fewer than 2 letters the app says "Type at least 2 letters."
5. Results appear after a short pause, split into groups: **Notebooks**, **Notes** and **Cards**. Each group shows at most 50 results.
6. Tap a result to open it.

## What exactly does it search?

| Group | Where it searches | What it shows | Where a tap goes |
|---|---|---|---|
| **Notebooks** | In the notebook name | The name, with the matched letters highlighted | To the notebook |
| **Notes** | In the text of paragraphs (headings without the `#`) | The notebook name and an excerpt around the word | To the notebook |
| **Cards** | In the question and the answer | The notebook name, the question and the answer | To the notebook, in the **Cards** view |

When the text is long, the app shows only a piece around the word it found, with "…" where it is cut. Tapping a note opens the notebook but does not scroll to the paragraph: look for the word on the page.

## How does search match words?

- It looks for the sequence of letters you type, wherever it appears: "ver" also finds "verb" and "every".
- It does not distinguish uppercase from lowercase and ignores accents: "cafe" finds "café", "resume" finds "Résumé".
- Several words together (for example "second war") are searched as a single phrase: they must appear one after the other, with the same space between them. If you find nothing, try a single word.
- Line breaks in the text count as spaces.
- Spaces at the start and end of what you type are ignored.

## What do I see if nothing is found?

"No results for “word”." with the hint "Check the spelling or try a shorter word."

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I search inside a single notebook?

No: search looks at all your notebooks. To narrow it down, type a word that only appears in that notebook or look in the **Notebooks** group to open it. The notebook name appears under every note and card anyway.

### Does search find the text of deleted paragraphs?

No. Deleted notebooks, notes and cards do not appear in the results.

### Why does it only show 50 results per group?

That is the cap for each group. With a more precise word the number goes down.

### Does it work without a connection?

Yes. Search reads the data on your phone, so it works offline and without an account. The comparison with the website's search is in [Search notes and flashcards in Keeplet](/en/help/web/search-notes-and-flashcards).

### How do I find a card when I remember its answer?

Type a word from the answer: cards are searched in both the question and the answer, and the result shows both.
