# Keeplet app limits

Applies to: Android and iPhone app · Last updated: 2026-10-29

In the Keeplet app for Android and iPhone a notebook can hold at most 250 items (notes and cards together), each text can be at most 1000 characters long and a notebook name at most 100. These are server limits, which the app already checks on your phone, so they apply even without an account.

## Limits table

| What | Limit | What the app does beyond the limit |
|---|---|---|
| Items in a notebook | 250, paragraphs and cards together | Shows "A notebook can hold at most 250 items, notes and cards together." and adds nothing |
| Characters in a paragraph | 1000 | Splits the text into several paragraphs when you save |
| Characters in a card's question | 1000 | Shows "At most 1000 characters" and disables **Save** |
| Characters in a card's answer | 1000 | Same as above |
| Characters in a notebook name | 100 | Shows "At most 100 characters" and disables the confirm button |
| Letters in a search | At least 2 | Shows "Type at least 2 letters." |

There is no limit on the number of notebooks.

## What is the 250-item limit?

Every paragraph and every card counts as one, headings included. The limit applies per notebook, not per account. When it is reached, the app refuses these actions, with the same notice:

- **Add notes**: the sheet stays open with the notice and none of the new paragraphs is saved;
- **Create card** from highlighting, and **New card** from the **+** button;
- **Duplicate** and **Move to another notebook…** (a destination notebook that is already full is disabled and says "Notebook full: 250 items");

**Turn into card** and **Turn into note** still work at 250 items, because the card takes the paragraph's place (and vice versa) and the count doesn't change. When moving, the cards that follow the paragraph count too: they go with it, so the destination notebook must have room for all of them.

To make room, delete paragraphs or cards you don't need, or move them to another notebook.

If you have an account and a notebook already has 250 items on the server too, the extra items aren't saved: the app tells you with "A notebook already has the maximum of 250 items: the extra ones were not saved."

## What is the 1000-character limit?

It applies to every paragraph, every question and every answer. Characters are counted in text units, so some special characters, such as many emoji, count as two.

- **Paragraphs.** If you write or paste more than 1000 characters in one paragraph, the app doesn't reject the text: it splits it at the end of a sentence (. ! ? …) or at a line break, as close to the limit as possible, and under the field it writes "The text will be split into 2 paragraphs." The "N/1000" counter appears, beyond 900 characters, only if the text stays a single paragraph.
- **Cards.** Question and answer are never split: beyond 1000 characters "At most 1000 characters" appears under the field and **Save** stays disabled until you shorten it. Beyond 900 characters you see the "N/1000" counter.
- **Headings.** **Turn into heading** adds two characters (`# `): if the paragraph is already at the limit, "At most 1000 characters" appears and nothing changes. The same happens with **Turn into note** if question and answer together exceed 1000 characters.

## What other limits will I meet?

| Where | Limit |
|---|---|
| Anki import | Files up to 2 MB, at most 2,500 cards at a time |
| Search | At most 50 results per group (notebooks, notes, cards) |

For the import, see [How to import an Anki deck into the Keeplet app](/en/help/app/import-an-anki-deck). The website's limits are on the [Keeplet limits and supported formats](/en/help/web/limits-and-formats) page.

## Frequently asked questions

### Why won't the app let me add more notes?

Almost certainly the notebook has reached 250 items. Cards count too: a notebook with 120 paragraphs and 130 cards is full. Delete or move something, or continue in another notebook.

### Can I raise the limits?

No. There are no settings in the app to change them.

### I'm pasting a very long lesson: will it lose parts?

No. The text is split into paragraphs and saved in full, as long as the notebook's total number of items stays within 250. Otherwise nothing is saved and the app tells you.

### Is the limit the same on the website?

On the website the 250-item cap per notebook is the same, because the server enforces it. For the website's details, see [Keeplet limits and supported formats](/en/help/web/limits-and-formats).
