# How to add a shared notebook in the Keeplet app

Applies to: Android and iPhone app · Last updated: 2026-10-29

In the Keeplet app for Android and iPhone you add a shared notebook from **Profile**, in the **Data** section, with **Add a shared notebook**: paste the link (or just the code) someone sent you, check the preview and tap **Copy to my space**. You need an account.

## Before you start

- **Account.** Without an account the app shows "You need an account" with a **Sign in** button: see [Save your progress](/en/help/app/save-your-progress).
- **The link.** Whoever created the notebook sends you an address like `https://keeplet.app/shared/…`. The code is the long part after `/shared/`.
- **Connection.** Preview and copy happen on the server: offline you see "No connection. Try again in a moment."

## Steps

1. Copy the link you received (from a message, an email or wherever it was sent to you).
2. In the app, open the **Profile** tab.
3. In the **Data** section, tap **Add a shared notebook**.
4. In the **Link or code** field, paste the link or the code.
5. Tap **Show preview**. You see the notebook name, the number of cards and notes (for example "12 cards and 5 notes") and the content, read-only.
6. Tap **Copy to my space**. If your account has more than one space, pick the destination under **Choose the space**.
7. When "Copied N items into the notebook…" appears, tap **Go to notebooks**: the notebook is in your list.

## Why do I have to paste the link instead of just tapping it?

The `https` link of a shared notebook, when tapped on your phone, opens in the browser on the Keeplet website, not in the app: opening these addresses directly in the app is not enabled. That is why the way that always works is to copy the link and paste it into **Add a shared notebook**.

## What happens to the copy?

The copy goes into your space and it is yours: you can read it, edit it and review it. The original notebook does not change, and it does not change if you edit your copy. The copy is created on your account: the app starts syncing right away and the notebook appears in your list; you will find it on the website too.

A notebook can hold at most 250 items, and each text can be at most 1000 characters. Anything over the limits is skipped and the app tells you: "N items skipped (too long or over the notebook limit)."

## Frequently asked questions

### The link does not work: what does that mean?

The app says "The link doesn't look valid." if what you pasted does not look like a Keeplet link or code, and "This link is not valid, has expired or was turned off." if the notebook is no longer shared. Links last 7 days from creation, and whoever created them can turn them off earlier: ask for a new link.

### Can I copy the same notebook twice?

No. If you have already copied it, the app says "You have already copied this notebook." and does not offer **Copy to my space**.

### Can I copy a notebook that I shared myself?

No: the app says "You shared this notebook yourself." Your notebook is already among yours.

### How do I share a notebook myself?

From the notebook, open its actions and tap **Share**, then **Create the link**: the app generates a read-only link and **Share the link** passes it to the other apps on your phone. **Stop sharing** turns it off. You need an account and the notebook must already be saved on the server. To share from the website, see [Share a notebook with a link](/en/help/web/share-a-notebook-with-a-link).
